The FLIP festival kicks off at the Custard Factory in Birmingham,
linking with Ideasfactory West Midlands’ Creative
Festival 05.
SE3D Showcase: In 2004, the SE3D animation scheme offered free
access for 12 groups of animators to HP Labs’ experimental
Maya® Rendering Service which gave them access to significant
computing power over the internet from their home or office. Combining
cutting-edge research, creative residencies and public events,
the project involved animators, digital artists and production
companies in shaping the technology of tomorrow. SE3D animators
David Ledsam and Stuart Barnecutt of Wolverhampton based studio
Screenburn and project co-ordinator Clare Reddington discuss the
scheme, the technology behind it and present the completed films.
