Flip 2006

Over 900 people visited the FLIP Animation Festival at Light House, Wolverhampton in October 2006. Held over four days, from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 October, the festival programme kicked off at the IMAX theatre, Birmingham. The weekend programme included talks by animation industry experts, festival premiere screenings of work by schoolchildren, students, graduates and animators from across the West Midlands, international open submissions, industry panels and debates, Student Awards, a retrospective of work by Slinky Pictures presented by BAFTA, and highlights of Animate! (the Channel 4/Arts Council England scheme) and AIR (the Channel 4 ‘Animator in Residence’ scheme).

Comments included, ‘This years festival had many highlights and combined discussion and entertainment with a fair amount of inspiration thrown in. The range of films on show was impressive and left students, tutors and the public alike, with the feeling that animation covers a vast amount of territory, not just in subject matter, but in technical wizardry and experiment.’ Neil Hadfield, University Of Central England.

Students comments included:
'Brilliant', 'inspiring', 'hilarious' and 'not at all what we expected'.

‘It was a pleasure to be involved, thanks for asking us to do the retrospective in the IMAX - it was a great experience.’ Myles Mcleod, The Brothers Mcleod - Spark And Zoom Productions
